  3. This is the README.TXT file distributed with Icon
  4. Manager version 3.1.

  7. REGISTRATION
  8. ------------
  9. Icon Manager is not free software.  It is released
  10. as shareware, which provides the opportunity for
  11. the program to be evaluated before it is purchased.
  12. Complete information on how to register Icon Manager
  13. is included in the REGISTER.TXT file.

  16. LEGAL MATTERS
  17. -------------
  18. We are not responsible for anything at all.  Nothing.
  19. Even if we are held responsible, the limit of our
  20. liability is the licensing fees you paid.  The full text
  21. of our license agreement is found near the bottom of
  22. this file.

  25. INSTALLING ICON MANAGER
  26. -----------------------
  27. The Icon Manager package includes a graphical Windows
  28. installation program using the standard name of SETUP.EXE.
  29. You should place all of the files included in the package
  30. on a floppy disk or in a temporary directory of your hard
  31. drive.
  32.  
  33. SETUP requires about 240K bytes to complete the
  34. installation of Icon Manager.
  35.  
  36. Run SETUP by selecting the 'Run...' command from the
  37. File menu of Program Manager or File Manager. Enter
  38. "d:\SETUP" as the Command Line, where "d" is the
  39. drive/directory that you are installing Icon Manager FROM
  40. (i.e. A:\SETUP).
  41.  
  42. SETUP will prompt for the target directory you would like
  43. to install Icon Manager to on your hard disk.  Accept the
  44. default or enter a directory of your choice.  Select OK
  45. to install Icon Manager.

  48. NEW FEATURES IN THE 3.1 RELEASE OF ICON MANAGER
  49. -----------------------------------------------
  50.  
  51. The following additions and changes have been added in
  52. the 3.1 release of Icon Manager:
  53.  
  54.   - Icon Archive files now store a description for an
  55.     icon.  If you open earlier versions of archive files
  56.     the descriptions will be "(Untitled)".  Icon Manager
  57.     will read old format icon archives.  Their "changed"
  58.     flag will be automatically set when they are opened.
  59.     When you select to save them they will be written in
  60.     the new format.
  61.  
  62.   - Icon windows act more like Program Manager's.  There
  63.     is a "current selection" for each window.  The icon
  64.     description will be highlighted in archive windows.
  65.     All other windows display a dotted frame around the
  66.     current selection.  Use the mouse or keyboard arrow
  67.     keys to move the icon selection.
  68.  
  69.   - The right mouse button can be clicked on any icon to
  70.     display a popup menu of actions that can be performed
  71.     on the icon.
  72.  
  73.   - Icons can now be edited via OLE by double-clicking
  74.     on them.
  75.  
  76.   - Icons can be installed *directly* into Program Manager
  77.     using the Install Icon function.  A supporting *.ICO
  78.     file is created to be used by Program Manager when (if)
  79.     your display format changes by changing your video
  80.     driver.  The Reconcile Configuration function can be
  81.     used at any time to cause Icon Manager to look for
  82.     ICO files it created which are no longer in use by
  83.     Program Manager.

  85.   - Icon Manager takes advantage of the sound capabilities
  86.     of Windows 3.1.  Select the File.Sound menu option to
  87.     configure your audio preferences.  If you have the
  88.     hardware to play digital *.WAV sounds, you can request
  89.     sound effects associated with the drag and drop as
  90.     well as deletion operations on icons.

  102.  SOFTWARE LICENSE
  103.  
  104.  Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use Icon
  105.  Manager on a 30-day trial basis for the purpose of determining
  106.  whether Icon Manager is suitable for their needs.  The use
  107.  of Icon Manager, except for the initial 30-day trial,
  108.  requires registration.  The use of unlicensed copies of Icon
  109.  Manager, outside of the initial 30-day trial, by any person,
  110.  business, corporation, government agency or any other entity is
  111.  strictly prohibited.

  113.  A single user license permits a user to use Icon Manager
  114.  only on a single computer.  Licensed users may use the
  115.  program on different computers, as long as there is NO
  116.  POSSIBILITY of it being used at one location while it is
  117.  being used at another, or on a computer network by more than
  118.  one user at a time.
  119.  
  120.  No one may modify or patch the Icon Manager executable files
  121.  in any way, including but not limited to decompiling,
  122.  disassembling, or otherwise reverse engineering the program.
  123.  
  124.  A limited license is granted to copy and distribute Icon Manager
  125.  only for the trial use of others, subject to the above
  126.  limitations, and also the following:
  127.  
  128.   1)    Icon Manager and all of its release files must be copied
  129.         in unmodified form, complete with the file containing
  130.         this license information.
  131.  
  132.   2)    Icon Manager may not be distributed in conjunction with
  133.         any other product without a specific license to do so
  134.         from Impact Software.
  135.  
  136.   3)    No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested or
  137.         accepted, except as authorized below:
  138.  
  139.         A) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
  140.            may make Icon Manager available for downloading only as
  141.            long as the above conditions are met.  An overall or
  142.            time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
  143.            system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
  144.            charge for the download of Icon Manager.
  145.  
  146.         B) Vendors of user-supported or shareware software approved by
  147.            the ASP may distribute Icon Manager, subject to the
  148.            above conditions, without specific permission.  Non-
  149.            approved vendors may distribute Icon Manager only after
  150.            obtaining written permission from Impact Software.
  151.            Such permission is usually granted.  Please write for
  152.            details (enclose your catalog).

  154.         C) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of the
  155.            Icon Manager diskette to their members, subject to
  156.            the above conditions, without specific permission.
  157.            Non-profit groups may collect a disk duplication fee
  158.            not to exceed five dollars.

  160.   LIMITED WARRANTY
  161.  
  162.   Impact Software warrants that all disks provided are
  163.   free from defects in material and workmanship, assuming
  164.   normal use, for a period of 90 days from the date of
  165.   purchase.
  166.  
  167.   Impact Software warrants that the program will perform
  168.   in substantial compliance with the documentation supplied
  169.   with the software product.  If a significant defect in
  170.   the product is found, the Purchaser may return the
  171.   product for a refund.  In no event will such a refund
  172.   exceed the purchase price of the product.
  173.  
  174.   EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, IMPACT SOFTWARE DISCLAIMS ALL
  175.   WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
  176.   LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND
  177.   FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE
  178.   PRODUCT.  SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, THE
  179.   PURCHASER ASSUMES THE RISK OF PAYING THE ENTIRE COST OF
  180.   ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR CORRECTION AND ANY
  181.   INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.  IN NO EVENT WILL
  182.   IMPACT SOFTWARE BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER
  183.   (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF
  184.   BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS
  185.   INFORMATION AND THE LIKE) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR THE
  186.   INABILITY TO USE THIS PRODUCT EVEN IF IMPACT SOFTWARE
  187.   HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

  189.   Use of this product for any period of time constitutes
  190.   your acceptance of this agreement and subjects you to its
  191.   contents.

  193.   U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS
  194.  
  195.   Use, duplication, or disclosure by the Government is subject
  196.   to restrictions as set forth in subdivision (b)(3)(ii) of
  197.   the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at
